Project description
The Project consists in the development, construction and operation of a 305 MW hydropower generation plant in the Reventazón river basin located in Siquirres, province of Limón, one of poorest regions in CR. It would be the largest hydropower project in CR (and Central America) when it starts operations in 2016. The Project involves a relatively long construction process of 4-5 yrs (medium size hydro projects are usually built in around 3 years) which has already started (15-20% advance according to ICE). It comprises an 8.8m diameter /2 km tunnel, and a 535 meter long / 125 meter high dam, with a reservoir area of approximately 690 ha.
