IFC and Partners Launch Water Resources Group in Davos
The Water Resources Group, an innovative, multi-stakeholder partnership that aims to improve water security was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland recently.
March 22, 2011 — Today, Global Water Day, brings water scarcity into the spotlight. In just 20 years, global demand for water is expected to be 40 percent higher than current supply.
Water is a cross-cutting resource that is critical for human survival and water availability and access are at the top of the global development agenda. Yet, in most countries, management of the water sector has not received adequate attention.
IFC works to enable private investment in the global water sector and other non-power utilities through project development and innovative financing.
Between fiscals 2002–08, IFC invested over $1billion in water and sanitation infrastructure, irrigation, and hydropower across six regions.
