IFC is the world’s largest multilateral investor in the private health care and education sectors in emerging markets. We consider them priority sectors and support their growth in developing countries in a sustainable and socially responsible way that helps improve the lives of people, many of whom do not have access to quality health care or education.
IFC works with private organizations to increase access to health and education services for people of lower- and middle-income levels. Our aim is to improve standards of quality and efficiency, facilitate the international exchange of best practice, and create jobs for skilled professionals, thereby encouraging them to remain in or return to their countries. To ease the burden on public health and education systems, IFC also works closely with the World Bank and developing country governments to design and tailor strategies that fit the needs of countries that do not have the resources to provide high-quality health care or education services for all their people.
